The plugins update feature is actually equal to openwrt opkg package system.
On openwrt they also advise against upgrading them, updating packages there is more for advanced users who know which ones can be updated and which ones cannot.
kmods are often not recommended because they have to satisfy kernel.
some packages may rely on dependencies which it auto upgrades.
some dependencies are directly tied to the base of openwrt or kernel.
With other words if you don't know what it does and understand the manifest of these packages it can softbrick your device
also its a misconception to update if that was for security purpose, such things often gets baked in in the next image, you may only want to choose the package update if a dev tells you
My suggestion is meant for GL.iNet firmware developers. If you know of a direct way for me to get my information/ suggestion to them, please advise me. Thank you.
The Plugins Tab offers "available updates" for the product being used.
Those updates should not be their if the user/consumer is using it at their own risk.
Better still, a warning should clearly state that the consumer is using "available updates" at their own risks.
I never realised that Windscribe wasn't available directly in the firmware. @GigiColtz You may or may not know that if you download the Glinet mobile app that you can login to Windscribe via the glinet app and choose your Wireguard location. You can only choose regions and not specific individual servers however it's better than nothing. It also allows me to easily switch regions on the fly!
My message to glinet devs. Why is there an option on the glinet mobile app for Windscribe but not on the web GUI? Also is there a way we can select a particular server from a region
Edit: just noticed that the mobile app has more providers that you can setup Vs the web GUI - again, why is that? Wouldn't it make sense for them to be mirrored?
What you see in the mobile app is if you set IN THE PHONE, but if you switch to IN THE ROUTER, you we'll see that Windscribe is not there, so IS NOT in the firmware. There are two different scenarios. We need to gave WIndscribe (and maybe other VPN providers as well) in the router's FW.
We've optimised it. Considering that some users don't know how to use the router and to minimise the disturbance for other users, the guide will only pop up the first time you use the router to access the admin panel.
Flint 2 - 4.7 beta 6 - kept disconnecting from WAN - connected with optical through PON Huawei. When reverted to 4.6.8 Flint 2 is keeping stable connection. Regards.
That's the release candidate, but not the final version. Development for 4.7 has been ongoing for quite a while. Are there any plans to start those for the OP24 version?
