Here’s what I’m trying to do. I’d like to set up my new Flint 3 as a wireless access point with two networks on all three bands (my primary and guest networks) and one network on just the 2.4 GHz band (an IoT network). My primary router is a ProtectLi FW-2B running OpnSense. I’ve figured out the OpnSense side of setting up the vlans and setting up the DHCP server but I need my AP to deliver 802.1q tagged traffic. I tried following the instructions here but, those appear to be for someone using the Flint 3 as their primary router.
I’ve tried to search around for information here on the forum but I haven’t found anything. If there is a post that answers my question please direct me in that direction. I understand how annoying it can be to answer a specific question repeatedly.
I’ve been directed via the subreddit to this thread. However, it somewhat confuses me. I’m trying to learn the commands that need to be performed since it doesn’t look like I can do everything that needs to be done via the GUI (even with LuCI) but, that thread, which otherwise seems to be doing exactly what I’m trying to do, is a bit too high level.
I don’t quite need an ELI5 explanation as I do have CLI experience in Windows, Linux, and FreeBSD but, I have functionally zero CLI experience in OpenWRT. I haven’t run any OpenWRT routers since the 802.11g days.
I did eventually figure out what I was doing. Partially with help from this site, partially from the Discord, and mainly from Gemini. It turns out that there may be something causing a bit of an issue. I ended up having to use SSH to get everything working.
If anyone else is doing similar work before this topic closes, just ask and I’ll go through and clean up my chat history to post it but, I was chatting for about 3 days on-and-off so it’s a mess as is.
