@gcs62 See my post above. Ubigi eSIM working fine in the UK.
Thanks David, that’s good to know, I’m still not having any luck at all. Support are being very helpful, but it’s looking like it’s a duff unit. Interesting to hear it worked well in France too as I’ll be heading there shortly and want to get it fixed by then
So, I’ve attached a couple of pics. One is of the Mudi screen, showing the Ubigi eSim connected and on 5G. The other is a speed test (Glasgow area this morning). My default sim is a physical Vodafone number, with Ubigi as my backup. When I first switch the unit on after it’s been idle for a while, it connects to Vodafone and initially shows the eSim as not registered.. However, when I switch to the eSim, it only takes 30 seconds or so to connect.
Just to keep people in the thread updated - I got test firmware and after updating Mudi, it finally can connect using 5G in areas with good coverage. Huge shout out to the support team for quick responses and willingness to solve issues fast
Wow! I haven’t had it working anymore than half an hour before it drops out, then the interface connects but without internet.
The only chance I have had of getting it working is with an external aerial, are your results are without, and what’s it like with a low signal? Less than 2 bars and mine doesn’t want to know
I’ve tried 4 different eSIMs now and my phone sim, in different locations, all with the same result.
Definitely not the performance you’re getting!!
Thanks for the info
Latest update: Firmware v4.8.4 for Mudi 7 is now available. Users experiencing registration problems are encouraged to upgrade and give it a try.
New firmware allows user to access the internet without band masking or downgrading to R15.
Just to be sure, before instaling new fimware should we switch back to R17?
I haven’t used an external aerial, so the results are just from the internal one. Using it just now, and it’s happily streaming Prime Video. I’ve attached a screenshot showing download speeds of nearly 700Mb. That’s with full bars, and I haven’t tried it in a low signal area, but it gives you an idea of what it should be capable of. If you can’t get the same kind of result it does point to the unit.
Might be worth trying the Ubigi option. I’m not at all tech savvy, but it seemed easy enough to install and get up and running. I bought a time-limited data plan for about £20.
Still having SIM registration issues with Firmware 4.8.4 on EE UK. Have manually reinstated r17 and disabled band masking
What provider are you on? The only band that the EU Mudi7 can do in T-Mobile USA for example is n41 5G SA. If that band is not around you it just wont work.
Hey, did you change APN to everywhere in sim card settings? Ii worked for me with EE SIM.
Worth a mention, I had some weird issues here with EE. 5G SA is available in my area and when switching sims it would get stuck in a connecting loop from showing EE with 4/5G or cellular. Disabling all SA bands and leaving the LTE and NSA bands in unchenged resolves that.
My thinking is that it’s trying to connect to SA and failing as my sim doesn’t have that available and it’s not falling back to trying 4G when that happens. Hope this helps anyone on EE who doesn't have a plan that has SA (stand alone 5G) or really any mobile network.
But now the mudi 7 is working great and has become my favourite device for travel. Thanks for sorting the issue for us here in the EU GL.iNet.
Yes and also tried “eap” the legacy EE APN for Sancom business sims. Both register after 15 minutes
4.8.5 is out
Hi, what is the latest on this? Do we still need to use the workaround in Germany (O2 data SIM) with the latest firmware upgrade or should I revert it now? Thanks!
Firmware v4.8.5 has addressed this issue while retaining the UE capabilities of R17. Please upgrade to the latest firmware without keeping setting to try
