Slate 7 pro (GL-BE10000)

They will present it at the CES.

Looks good.

If that’s true, it’s annoying for Slate 7 owners. Barely get firmware updates, and a newer device gets released. Seems the hardware team are a bit too keen and the software folders can’t keep up with the sheer amount of devices. I’d like to see the travel router line consolidated to either mediatek or qualcomm. I don’t understand why there are basically 2 lines or travel router that essentially do the same thing.

For what reason do you need firmware updates? I mean, yeah, for keeping software up2date - but this is more or less not needed. (At least if there is no security issue)

wow, good news!

I'll wait for a “flint 3 pro” or “flint 4” :squinting_face_with_tongue:

Fair point, not perse about security reasons.

But my personal opinion is that Gl-iNet already has a management issue on their repos, and new devices are only going to make that worse.

What they currently do is:

compile a bunch of packages on vendor sdk x.

And then start expecting all these packages to work on other devices aswell (not speaking on behalf of kmods), even if they are build with different toolchains, and a too big kernel gap.

Many times user based packages break with segfaults which often is huge red flag for me this issue is present, and this can also affect alot of broken symptoms, it's ridiculous if you look how these issues get interpreted as bugs they try to fix ... when likely one really big factor might be this, the issue however is they eventually start hacking up things expecting to work when it infact is already dependency broken problem, these things can also cause much more deeper problems not so obvious.

They seem to have space problems too and personally I think they should sync the gl sdk on all versions with their own compiled images and packages on the targeted toolchains, instead of new models like the 'pros' invest more resources in space.

I'm afraid when devices are not new enough they become now very fast firmware abandoned ware (not in the extremes I exaggerate), but I see also the fast phases new devices get released.

I also got a Slate 7 and still did not see a new firmware release synced purely for the gl sdk, which is annoying because you miss about some features and also some fixes.

Who asked for this? We just got Slate 7 and now this…

Again with a screen no one asked for. A screen that only inflates already significant price. I haven’t used a screen on my Slate 7 once. It’s cheap, ugly and it serves no purpose. I can do everything in WebUI much faster and more efficiently. It’s nothing but a gimmick and it looks awful when it’s on.

Agree completely.

There’s a lot of improvements to be done in firmware that people ask for for years, yet they release more and more devices that do exactly the same thing and have almost exactly the same specs.

Everything looks nice on render. Wait till you see how cheap and ugly that gimmicky screen really is.

Will people who just bought a Slate 7 get a special discount code?

I would rather GL.iNet cut costs and omit a touch screen. I don't think it's a must-have on a router.

Exactly. It’s nothing but a gimmick and it doesn’t even look good.

Never mind the fact that I can’t stand touchscreens without a screen protector. I doubt GL.iNet is going to make one and I am not someone that can make a professional looking screen protector. The quality of the chassis, internal hardware, and software is way more important than the touchscreen.

I have to agree, I have essentially zero use for a touchscreen, and would much rather skip the cost of it in a new device, and see improved firmware quality and a faster release cycle.

I’ve owned pretty much every travel router you’ve released since the first Brume on kickstarter summer 2020.
My current Slate 7 has been rock solid, I haven’t had a single crash since last June, which really speaks to the maturity of the platform.

The only thing I slightly missed was a tri-band setup, so I’m genuinely excited about the Slate 7 Pro. It looks like a very solid evolution of the lineup.

I’d be happy to test it in real-world conditions once it’s ready. Do you already have an estimated launch window, March or April?

Which platform? OpenWRT all GL.iNet routers are built upon?

That’s not really GL.iNet’s achievement, you know.

Apparently you’d be happy to buy and test literally anything they release.

Most of us purchase routers on a need basis, not because it exists. Thus we prefer feature set and long term support rather then overinflated product lines that cannibalize each other at every step.

I am happy with my purchases based on my actual needs, not on hype. If GL.iNet doesn’t suit you with their OpenWRT base and additions, why linger in their discussions? Try TP-Link or something else, as for me, I stick with what works for me.

Same here, my experience with Gl.inet products has been excellent. The Flint 2 and the Beryl AX are great.

I never said I dislike OpenWrt. Quite the opposite, I said stability on these devices primarily reflects the maturity of OpenWrt, not GLiNet firmware. GLiNet just adds some welcomed convenience on top, but that doesn’t mean every design or product decision they make is beyond critique.

Forgive me for perhaps being excessively presumptuous, but owning "pretty much every travel router you’ve released since the first Brume on kickstarter" is not what I’d call purchasing based on actual needs.

If buying every new model works for you, great. Others evaluate hardware based on actual needs and long-term support - especially as the product lines keep expanding.

I am not lingering, I am engaging in discussion. If you can’t handle that without telling people to go elsewhere, perhaps you shouldn’t participate at all.
