[Solved] Easy captive portal login with Beryl (GL-MT1300) – no MAC clone, no DNS tweaks needed

:speech_balloon: Post content:

Hi everyone,
just wanted to share my simple and working solution for connecting the Beryl (GL-MT1300) router to a campsite Wi-Fi using captive portal.

Most tutorials I found were overly complicated – involving MAC cloning, hostname overrides or manual DNS editing. None of that was necessary in my case.

Here’s what worked perfectly for me:

:white_check_mark: Steps that worked:

  1. Powered on my Beryl router
  2. Connected to its admin panel at 192.168.8.1
  3. Switched the mode to Extender
  4. Chose the campsite Wi-Fi network
  5. A captive portal login page opened automatically
  6. Entered my username and password (provided by reception)
  7. Restarted the router just to be safe
  8. All of my devices now connect through Beryl and have full internet access

:brain: Notes:

  • No need for Repeater mode, MAC cloning, custom DNS, or anything fancy
  • Tested in a real-world campsite with captive portal and single-login limitation
  • Now I have 3+ devices connected through Beryl and the campsite network thinks it's just one device. Works like a charm!

Hopefully this helps others looking for a no-fuss solution. Let me know if you want more details. :+1:

Thanks for sharing your solutions and experiences!

Nice. It sounds like you were on a site with a very simple captive portal system. I'm guessing you didn't use a mobile device to connect beforehand. Cruise ships may be a different story:

... etc.

We have made some improvements to this issue before, newer firmware is added the Camouflage mode.

However, the WiFi system of each MSC cruise ship may be different, and this function/mode may not be suitable for your cruise ship.

If the router is unavailable to access MSC portal or no Internet connection when connects to MSC WiFi, please contact us to check.

Thank you.
