Use GL-MT6000 Wi-Fi 6 AX6000 Router as Main Router

Need Help Maximizing Internet Speeds with GL-MT6000 Wi-Fi 6 AX6000 Router

Hi everyone,

I recently purchased the GL-MT6000 (Flint 2) Wi-Fi 6 AX6000 router to resolve an internet speed issue at home with my ISP. Here’s the setup and problem I’m facing:

• My ISP modem/router shows speeds of 3 Gbps up and down.

• When I connect my MacBook Pro (supports up to 5 Gbps connections) directly to the ISP’s 10 Gbps port using a Cat 6e (10 Gbps rated) ethernet cable, I only get speeds of sub-850 Mbps on Speedtest.

• To troubleshoot, I connected the ISP’s 10 Gbps port to the Flint 2’s 2.5 Gbps WAN port using the same Cat 6e cable. Then, I connected another 10 Gbps cable from the Flint 2’s 2.5 Gbps LAN port to my MacBook Pro. Despite this setup, my speeds remain the same at sub-850 Mbps.

• The Flint 2 and my laptop are the only devices connected to the network during testing.

Additionally, when I connect to the Flint 2’s 5 GHz Wi-Fi SSID, I’m only getting sub-500 Mbps wireless speeds.

So far, I’ve tried the following:

  1. Enabled Advanced DMZ to use the Flint 2 as the main router — no improvement.

  2. Configured a PPPoE connection on the Flint 2 — still no change.

I’m hoping to achieve at least 2.5 Gbps speeds (closer to the ISP’s advertised speeds) but haven’t been successful. Am I missing something in the setup? Is there anything specific I need to configure on the Flint 2 to fully utilize it's potential

Any advice or troubleshooting tips would be greatly appreciated!?

Please upgrade to the latest firmware, and check the network port speed in the GL GUI -> Network -> Network Port Management

What is the maximum negotiation speed of the Internet port of that ISP modem? 1Gbps,2.5Gbps or 5Gbps?

MT6000 WAN and WAN/LAN1 maximum are 2.5Gbps.

If not 2.5Gbps, please ssh to the router, and try executing these commands:

ethtool -s eth1 speed 2500 duplex full autoneg off

I am currently on v4.6.8

I do not have the network port management option.

see screenshot

Sorry I did not respond to some of the questions.
Well the speed i am paying for from the ISP is 3gbps up and down and that is what i get when i run the speedtest on the isp router directly

The isp modem has about 5 1gbps ports and 1 10gbps port

Talking about ssh to the router are you asking for ssh to the gli-inet router? to run the ethtool command?

ssh root@xxxxxxxx
root@xxxxxxxxx's password:

BusyBox v1.33.2 (2024-12-05 01:20:08 UTC) built-in shell (ash)

Sorry, I miss something that the MT6000 does not support this command to config the Eth port speed.

Now the router has updated to the latest firmware, how about the port speed?
If they did not arrive 2.5Gbps, please let me know the other side network device, like the adapter NIC model.

Speedtest while connected to 2.5GBps LAN on router whiles router is connected to isp modem via wifi repeat

870 mbps up and down

speedtest while connected to router wifi

300 mbps up and down

NETWORK PORT MANAGEMENT

My issue is that wifi is supposed to submit upto 2.5gbps.. if i am getting excess of 800mbps through the repeater ahile connected to ethernet, why is the wifi connection giving me less than half?

Does the router 2.5G WAN connect to the ISP modem with the network cable?
It is supposed to be display the Speed when the cable connected.

Please execute the command in the SSH of router:
ethtool eth1

This may depend on the repeater (sta) interface and the Clients' WiFi negotiation rate.

In general, the clients data goes through the router, which needs to repeat the data, like say at the same time, the router needs to receive data from the phone, and it also needs to send data to the ISP modem (from phone <-> router <-> modem), means TX and RX at the same time, so the wireless bandwidth of the client will be equal to 1/2 of the repeater interface rate.

I am not connected to the ISP router with the cable.
i am using wifi repeater

You are saying "This may depend on the repeater (sta) interface and the Clients' WiFi negotiation rate."

How do i configure the routers to provide optimum wifi speeds via wifi repeater then?

Check the negotiated speed on your macbook's wifi settings.

Might be able to find it under "Network Utility" called "Link Speed" or something.

On windows for example:

Assuming it's symmetrical (which is not always is) 850Mbps doesn't seem too far off from a max theoretical of 1200Mbps over a wifi connection.

Have you tried different wifi channels?

It seems i am coming off as unclear .
the wifi speeds i am getting while strictly connected to the wifi signal on the router is below

out of 1.2gbps. that is unacceptable

The 800mbps speeds i reported earlier are from when i have an ethernet cable connected from my flint 2 router to my laptop. pure wifi connection is always sub 400mbps

Oh, repeater as the WAN.

Sorry, I thought it was a wired connection.

What is the repeater interface speed rate?

Did you try to upgrade to the op24 firmware?
https://dl.gl-inet.com/router/mt6000/open

Sorry,
what ɔ you mean by repeater interface speed rate? where do i find this interface? is that on the flint 2 router or elsewhere? will i find it on my isp router?

I am already on version v4.7.0
