I have a Spitz AX right now, its amazing for road trips.
Some suggestions:
Incorporate the touch screen like new Slate and Mudi for quick access to toggle things on/off like VPN, trigger firmware updates, etc
Smaller footprint (for me I travel with it in the back of my SUV)
USB-C powered native, today I use a barrel→USB-C adapter. I power the Spitz AX via DC power bank in the car or as needed onsite
Bonus: POE powered to use as 5G fail-over. Yes, this is picky, but 1 ethernet providing network + power is great. I have a UniFi stack and it appears POE is picking up alot of adoption in other network brands.
The Puli needs to have a user-replaceable battery. A more current modem is definitely preferred.
I also want to use it in the car, so maybe better mounting options?
There should be a minimum of 2 GB of RAM. No more proprietary barrel charging port. At a minimum, it should use USB-C for charging. PoE is a great idea, as suggested by someone else.
Do you even own 1? The Spitz only has 2 RJ45 ports, If you look at the physical structure most of the external area is taken up by the external antenna connectors, 6 in total. Id be personally fine with internal wi-fi antennas and internal 5G antennas (like a EERO AP size) with optional external antenna for 5G like the Mudi 7 but I don’t move that far away from the unit when I travel so wi-fi is not an issue in my use case and may not fit everyone else.
I use a barrel→usb-c adapter so you can use a standard DC power bank, but again it’s just one more complexity of stuff to have just for the 5g router. Native USB-C is the way to go
Thank you for your feedback!
Our team is still working on the product definition and no final specs have been decided yet.
We will definitely take community feedback into full consideration.
Let’s have a quick poll:
How essential is IP Passthrough for your daily usage?
Do you need this feature to use the device as a 5G modem paired with your own home router?
