Which router to use for goodcloud, Shadow or Creta? ssh provider alternative?

Hello all,

I would like to have a router to which I can SSH into and hop to a different computer to manage it.

Is the gl.inet goodcloud service sufficient for this? Ports cannot be opened as this is prohibited by the network provider, but at first test the SSH via goodcloud would work. Is there a different service available, does someone have suggestions?

I have two spare routers basically, a Creta and a Shadow AR300. Which one should I use, does the Creta still offer options the Shadow cannot fulfill?

Hi

Yes, you can first log in to SSH interface of GL.iNet router through GoodCloud, and from there you’ll be able to SSH into other devices on the same subnet.

For your use case, there’s no major difference between the Creta and Shadow models—you can choose whichever one you prefer.

Cool. You're looking for a 'jump box'/'bastion host' then. I'd go with the Certa. That microSD card slot is just what's needed to expand its attached storage beyond a partly 16 MB. I've written a script so you can link opkg install packages to it without risk to breaking the native GL firmware. It should work on the Shadow too but the Certa has a uSD slot and a USB port. I'd use the USB port for dumping packet capture files to it should you ever need to. See below:
