Why there is no support for netbird or netmaker?

Hello Community and GL.Inet Team,

I don’t really understand the policy of Gl.Inet.
I mean they build router for VPN and then there is no support of Netmaker or Netbird.

I have 2 AXT1800 and i made the work arround with netbird - At the end I figuered out the netbird version ist totally old and no featueres.. Not upgradeable…

The main thing of building these routers ist VPN or am i wrong? - Took them years to implement VPN suppliers. In a world where everything is geoblockt, i need somehow a connection between Home and Abroad. At home i have Dual Stack - Abroad i have only IPV4.

That’s really a nightmare and I need to invest so much time and headache.

The openWRT Version of AXT 1800 is 23.05 and somewhere I found 25.12
Upgrade other firmware and hope for updated software. That crashed my AXT1800 complete.

Gl.Inet build Wifi7 travel routers with 2.5Gbit WAN interfaces. What is the usecase of that? - In which Hotel I have 2.5Gbit LAN? - I working as an engineer worldwide. With a stable 100Mbit LAN i would be very happy in many countries.

Mhh. 5 Years I made side-to-side vpn with my home over ipv4.
Now my home has DSlite (Fibre), so only VPN over ipv6 possible.
Now i need to hope, the Hotel my Boss booked, has ipv6.
I also rent a server with ipv6 and ipv4 and connect my home and travelrouter to it.
But I cannot use my home as an exit node then.

I’m not the only one here for asking for netbird support or netmaker.

So the solution is: Waiting for hotels, that they have ipv6 or wait for GL.Inet for implement netbird or netmaker.

And that’s in a year 2026.

Please GL.Inet, don’t invest time in building Travelrouters with specs, no one need. Build travelrouter with software people need. The hardware is already good enough.

Best Regards,

Mario

Hi

If your ISP does not provide a public IP address, preventing you from hosting a WireGuard/OpenVPN server, you may consider using our Astrowarp service.

Alternatively, you can use the built-in Tailscale feature integrated into the firmware.

If you still prefer to use NetBird, you can refer to the following guide to install and use it (latest version):
