Wrong IP on my work Laptop

Hello,

Im facing a very weird issue, that make me headache since a few days already.

I do have a GL MT3000 router, firmware v4.6.8 connected to my wireguard server in Germany.

Not long time ago, everything was working fine, byt since a few days, I see that the IP detected in my work laptop is from UK. Im btw. not in UK.
When I connect my Mobile phone to the same Wi-Fi, i could see the correct IP. Namely the Germany one.

I tried several things, remove the hostname, make sure the ddns is disabled, block nonvpn traffic, but im still facing the same issue. Also tried different VPN servers all in germany.

I do have 2 router MT300 and one Mudi V2, all shows the same behaviors. I might need to say, that the issue appears somehow after I start using the Mudi V2. Not sure if that related or not.

I really appreciate any help, as im struggling here and I can't use the UK networks cause the work server whitelist only German IP.

Please run an DNS leak test: DNS Leak Test - BrowserLeaks
And the IP one: My IP Address - BrowserLeaks

Check which will be marked as UK.

On both shows the UK IP address. Except that in the /ip one, it shows me the correct IP under WebRTC Leak Test > Public IP Address.

On the mobile phone both show the correct German IP.

If you are talking about the DNS servers from DNS leak test:

They both start the same till, the mobile uses this 172.253.1.221 and the laptop uses this instead: 188.122.68.218

Then continues with the same IPs, till 74.63.24.213. This was the ladt entry in mobile phone, but laptop shows more:

The main question is which IP should be shown.

Please double-check your VPN settings and the used proxy mode.
Is the IP that is shown in both tests the same when you do the test without VPN?

The IP should be shown is the German one starts with 79.X.X.X. this is where my VPN server is running and also the one my mobile phone shows.

The wrong one starts with 185.X.X.X. i do not know from where this IP comes. The one without VPN should start with 49.X.X.X

The whatmyipaddress.com detect this IP as VPN server based in UK.

Im using Global Proxy mode.

In that case, try a different VPN provider (or a different server first)

Sometimes the IP database get updated if there are many users using it from one location.

I did try 3 different VPN servers with different IPs. But no luck. I just cannot explain why only on my laptop, but not on mobile phone.

Please try without VPN and compare the results.
Is IP different? Is DNS IP different?

Yes. They are completely different. After I unblock nonvpn traffic.

In that case it seems that the IP database was updated and you encounter the result now.
Try a different VPN provider then :frowning:

If it updated, why my mobile phone still shows me the other IP?

I can't tell for sure. Could be some IPv6 stuff, or geolocation or whatever else the phone might do or don't. It's hard to troubleshoot.

Testing another VPN should be sufficient to check if the issue is with VPN in general or just those providers.

You said work laptop? Could be company work using own VPN?

No, the VPN on my laptop isnt on yet.

I manage to setup another VPN server on my home network (no static IP) but im still seeing this weird IP address. I do not know from where it comes, it the same IP on all the VPN server I tried.
