Car antenna recommendations for GL-X3000 / Spitz AX?

@nschemel : do you tried to get gps working with panorama antenna?

@habeIchVergessen I have to test it properly. I’m not at home right now, but will be able to test it on Sunday.

@habeIchVergessen Good news! I was curious and used my 15 minutes of free time today to test the GPS functionality and it works

Commands used:
AT+QGPS=1 #Enable GPS
AT+QGPSLOC=2 #Get the location information

@nschemel: thx for testing. can you provide the last number of gpsloc string? represents the number of satellites
it’s strange, according to data sheet the antenna doesn’t cover gps frequency.

@habeIchVergessen Here you go. 29 satellites sound a lot. My Victron Cerbo GX, to which I forward the data to, says 9 satellites.

But you’re right regarding the specs the 5G antennas shouldn’t really support the GPS frequencies, but a lot of spectrum below and above that. So obviously it works anyways. But as these antennas are not specialised for GPS frequencies and have a lot lower gain, I suppose the GPS reception is not ideal.

Datasheets for 4G/5G antennas only emphasize the performance of the antenna over the 4G/5G spectrum, but that doesn’t mean they’re not receiving other frequencies. In practice, they are, there’s just no specific guarantee on the gain over those other parts of the spectrum. That’s why you can use a lot of 4G/5G antennas for GPS as well…

Have you got any good news for the coming antenna? I am eagerly to test or buy it if it has magnet mounting options

Can you share how you set the router for google fi?

Hard to get updated answers for google fi settings on router.

Thanks!

It just works out of the box with a data only sim

Any APN settings? Or just select automatic

I don’t have anything to add. It just worked for me with default settings.

Does anybody know of a directional antenna that could work for GL-X3000? I will be using it in a crowded space (on a conference) so I could use any advantage I can get to catch a better signal. I will be exhibiting and the conference charges many thousands for wifi.

@Tim-Zhang I have not found the antenna recommendation on the X3000 product page. Which antenna do you recommend ?

I’ve been eyeballing the peplink 42g and the parsec doberman pro. They get great reviews.

Quick question, in what order did you connect the antenna? (I mean how did you pair Cell A, Cell B, Cell C and Cell D with the Router “main”, “mimo1”, “mimo2” and “div” ?

I am struggling as speeds with the antenna are way slower than with the tiny plastic antennas that came with the router.

Thank you

Hi,

I’ve connected the antenna in the following order.

From left to right: (Main) B - D - 2 - 1 - C - A (Div)

I hope that helps.
