the strange thing is, it just started fine but maybe to low voltage when flashing u-boot?
for me this is new, but perhaps not that strange.

Since many users confirm Edge and Safari working well, I’m wondering if that MT2500 bricking series can be triggered by extensions installed on chrome based browsers ? I’m thinking for adblockers .. ?
I mean, who is using Safari and Edge for everyday workflows and to do’s ? especially geeks buying an openwrt based device use something different then that .. mostly Firefox, chrome, brave etc. and in most cases somehow personalized with extensions ..
My last MT2500 brick happened on an Windows10 Lenovo L480 ..
I got my replacment Brume 2 today from Glinet EU store, so it is back in stock. Thanks again to Glinet Support for everything.
It came preinstalled with fw 4.7.0 so I upgraded to 4.7.4. UBoot shows 2022.07-rc3 (Feb 24 2025), is that the latest proper version even if it shows 2022?
Could direct ethernet versus using a usb-ethernet adapter affect update succes or bricking?
It would be good to see the following with every post about uboot update:
router model
system os
browser
cable connection
Just to be clear.
I have Spitz X3000 with firmware 4.7.4 Release 5 (2025-03-17).
Do I need to upgrade uBoot? Immediately, later, never?
Also if I don't can someone explain how my router life will be adversely affected and why?
Tom
Depends on your Uboot version, not firmware version. I think you can only see the version when in Uboot mode. Issue appears to be an incorrect parameter leading to too much electrical current to the chip causing premature wear of the cells (reduced flash lifespan), someone else would have to chime in with the resolved Uboot (2022-rc3) build date for the X3000.
my returned one also shows this version, I guess based on the date and the date on the post of Bruce it is the good u-boot version, the 2022 may be a build id, I see this common when I automate builds with Jenkins CI it can add a build number on it.
Please update uboot.
Thank you @alzhao , @TunnylaneTom has the X3000 though, so based on how I'm reading the OP it looks like he would want a build date of Feb 25 2025 showing there, correct?

I have the GL-X3000 v4.0 (Uboot not updated) and there is a Beta v4.8 available.
If I install the Beta v4.8, do I still need to update the Uboot?
thank you.
Yes it should.
Yes. Better to update uboot. Don’t use Firefox.
I just updated my Spitz AX (GL-X3000) U-Boot today and ran into a bit more difficulty than I'd had with my Brume 2, but I was ultimately successful. Initially, when I went into the U-Boot update interface, the upload seemed to work fine, but when I tried to upgrade, it would immediately tell me that it failed. I tried using Chrome (instead of Brave, which worked fine with my Brume 2), but that didn't work. I tried renaming the file, which also didn't work. Eventually, I ended up going into my router and resetting the firmware. The only thing I redid after the reset was log into the admin panel and change the password from its default. After that, the U-Boot update worked without any issue.
I had put in some custom configuration through the LuCI interface (firewall and software such as BanIP), so I'm guessing that something I'd configured through LuCI was blocking the U-Boot update process for some reason. I probably didn't have this issue with my Brume 2 because I'd already reset the firmware on it since I was/am not actively using it. Anyway, as painful as it is, it might make sense to reset your firmware prior to trying the U-Boot update, especially if you've done any custom setup/software install through LuCI. Good luck!
is there a way to update uboot using serial?
There must be. But I don’t know.
I don't know the exact details.
But i think you can use GitHub - 981213/mtk_uartboot I have used this to flash a zyxel T-56 over a serial connection with initramfs.
But which images you need to unbrick... I readed that you need the bl2 image and fip image, but I don't know in which way.
Anyone noticed their Brume 2 seems to boot way slower than before, mostly because of this update? Could it be, the previous higher current being used for EMMC was meant to boost read/write speeds of the flash memory, and now it seems to be slower?
yeap same with me. Boot is too slow on the latest firmware.
