So, I´ve got an answer from support over night. Thanks a lot for the quick response. But I think we have the next problem. They offerd me a mt3000 and described it as higher-tier model. I´m already an owner of the mt3000. The benefit of it is the WiFi (I don´t need Wifi). The disadvantage is the low RAM. The mt3000 has unfortunately only 512MB RAM. I use AdGuard with a couple of black lists. And for this usecase is 512MB to low.

Well, if you have a look to the GL-Inet store (EU), you can see that the mt2500 is out of stock for weeks. I think GL.iNet is not able to replace all our broken devices. What now?

Hello,

You can communicate with the customer service guys, I think there should be a more solution to provide the replacement.

Just received my Brume 2 that I ordered direct from GL today... Should I wait until this issue has a better resolution before unboxing/installing?

I just successfully upgraded U-Boot firmware and firmware to the recommended version on my Puli AX XE3000. Keep in mind to not hold the reset button for longer than 9 seconds, otherwise it will wipe all user data.

reduce the routers' service life

Does that mean my device will have a shorter lifetime if I have been running it with the old firmware these past months? Is it an overheating issue? I appreciate a more detailed description of the issue.

No need to wait, you can unbox to use now.

The above user feedback on the successful to upgrade uboot of MT2500.

Not an overheating problem.

It is the software parameters are incorrect, and the router may occasionally experience abnormalities during operation.

@kaz050457 congratulations! You are the only one on this thread so far that was able to update the MT2500 successfully as everyone else bricked their MT2500 routers. May I ask what month/year you purchased your Brume 2 router?

well, updated two MT2500a's as suggested by GL -NET without any problems. I suspect folks with successful update usually won't write within this thread.

Well, my fears have become true. GL.iNet is not able to replace the mt2500. They´re out of stock! Instead of this the support offered to refund the money. Ok, it´s a bad situation for the customers, and it´s a bad situation for GL.iNet. But giving back the money an returning the damaged devices without any costs is a fair solution.
So my question... Is there any new model like a Brume 3 in sight?

Glinet Europe store is out of stock, support offers to ship me a Brume 2 replacment from China, with no word how long this will take, and they also said this in the email:

"We regret to inform you that the GL-MT2500 in our EU warehouse is temporarily sold out and it is expected to be back in stock in May.

We would like to confirm with you whether you accept us to send you a new GL-MT2500 from China? We will try our best to help you declare the invoice as a lower amount."

What does that mean? What invoice? I wont pay for anything. I want a free replacment, also I wont pay any shipment or duty import costs from China.

You should ask if it will be a model for EU. If I remeber correct, there have been discussions with missing VPNs.

This is interesting because I did experience a bootup issue before this was identified, maybe late 2024. I use the Brume 2 in drop-in gateway mode for a wireguard client to use solely for a site-to-site vpn. Well I shut the power off to the network and when I restored the power to the Brume 2 it did not connect to the wireguard vpn. I tried to access the Brume 2 via the static IP and nothing. Looks like the unit failed. I then looked online to see how to unbrick the Brume 2. I was able to get into UBoot and try to upgrade it many times and it would always fail at the end. I was using FireFox as the web browser to do the uboot update. I then tried Microsoft edge to update UBoot, again no success, but if I remember correctly in acted slightly differently. Then I tried the same procedure using Google Chrome and it worked the first time! I was able to get it back working and has been working ever since.

For those of you who had success, what browser did you use to update the device?

Same question for those who failed to update their device, what browser did you use?

It's a bit less severe than that, luckily. I think you can always recover a bricked mt7981 device with just serial console access, using the chipset uart boot mode and GitHub - 981213/mtk_uartboot, though you'll need a 'ram' bl2 image as well as a u-boot image. (I use this on my own devices a lot when I've been hacking on u-boot and inevitably screw something up.)

The RAM bl2 images are here, all the way at the bottom:

1.updated the uboot firmware (not router firmware!) 2. updated the router firmware 3. got access again 4. Had to update router firmware again through the router dashbord 5. fix

Thank you bLuNa
