That isn't true for the eSIM GL.iNet uses. Because this eSIM is a physical card - so it's the same as with any other SIM card. You are right, however, for eSIMs built-in mobile phones; this isn't the case here.
Hi. I wonder)) why is it called eSIM then? What does the not very accurate Wikipedia tell us about eSIM
An eSIM (embedded SIM) is a form of SIM card that is embedded directly into a device. Instead of an integrated circuit located on a removable SIM card, typically made of PVC, an eSIM consists of software installed onto a eUICC chip permanently attached to a device. If the eSIM is eUICC-compatible, it can be re-programmed with new SIM information. Otherwise, the eSIM is programmed with its ICCID/IMSI and other information at the time it is manufactured, and cannot be changed. Different mobile telephones may not support an eSIM, may have a permanently programmed, unchangeable one, or one that can be reprogrammed for any carrier that supports the technology. Phones may support physical SIMs only, eSIM only, or both.[1]
Once an eSIM carrier profile has been installed on an eUICC, it operates the same as a physical SIM, complete with a unique ICCID and network authentication key generated by the carrier.
The eSIM standard was first released in 2016; since that point, eSIM has begun to replace physical SIM in domains including cellular telephony.
I don't see any information about a physical SIM card for Europe or Asia or Latin America.
And the most important question is, is it possible to pay for this SIM card with cryptocurrency, so that as you write in the description of this SIM card, it increases privacy protection from tracking.
If it is impossible to pay with cryptocurrency, then this SIM card does not make any sense) You can buy a cheaper version of the SIM card online on other sites..
I think you need to change the name of the physical eSIM so that users don't get confused.
It is called eSIM because it allows you to use eSIMs in the devices. It's some eSIM to special SIM converter. At the end the profile is saved on the physical SIM however.
as I wrote above, this causes confusion among users, I understand what you mean, maybe call it:
I can't answer it because I don't work for GL.
@bruce will answer it later this day, I assume.
I would also like to know if it is possible to use a physical eSIM without the Gl.iNet shell, for example in pure OpenWRT, since the shell is very heavy, bloated and works slowly, so I prefer OpenWRT
Currently, cryptocurrency payments are not supported.
Thanks.
@Hoff Hoff please have a look.
Yes, you are right.
No, there is LPA program in our firmware, we use LPA program to manage physical eSIM.
Your purchase of our Physical eSIM is anonymous, which means you are buying a specific card, but we ship it randomly. We do not record the EID of the physical eSIM and do not bind your order. The most important information is whether your personal information or your credit card is recorded when you purchase the eSIM profile. Some eSIM profile stores support purchasing with cryptocurrency. For example: https://silent.link/
If you want an anonymous physical eSIM walk into your local store. Pay cash. Leave shop.
Provided that this is legal in your country. Wouldn't be possible in Germany, for example.
Probably not legal, but still possible even in Germany. a) go to the next flee market in your area and buy your SIM there. b) find one of this strange looking shops and ask for a preregistered sim. If foreigners buy a sim there, they sometimes register a dozen in their name. c) other EU country. I bought an anonymous sim in spain last year.
If the profile has been pre-loaded and enabled, the answer is almost certainly yes. I tried a third party one and it works fine.
To manage the eSIM (add profiles etc.) you'll need to put it in a router running GL firmware or use a card reader and something like EasyEUICC (https://gitea.angry.im/PeterCxy/OpenEUICC/releases).
Hi.
Clarification.
Did I understand you correctly that only with the official Gl.iNet firmware and the loaded LPA program can I use eSIM from gl.inet?
If I have GL.iNet GL-E750 (Mudi) - OpenWrt installed OpenWrt Firmware Selector then I will not be able to install LPA and use eSIM?
I would like to disagree with you when you write that the purchase of your eSIM card is anonymous, that is, NO KYC!
An anonymous purchase means that the user does NOT provide their personal data to the seller, which can be used by the seller for unknown purposes!
As for the link, thank you.
Yes, if you want to manage esim, you need to use our standard firmware.
If you have a bulk order, we can also provide you with the compiled LPA program separately, which you can configure/mange esim via the linux command line.
Clarification on physical eSIM is it just an adapter?
I buy this adapter from you in the form factor of a SIM card, then I can buy and download the profile of any eSIM provider, for example https://www.airalo.com/italy-esim or https://marketplace.esim.me/ .
