FEATURE REQUEST: Netbird support

I have been testing netbird overlay network and I think it would be great to add support for it.
Why you asked me when we already have Zerotier and Tailscale ?
Netbird is 100% open source AND self hosted.
Please support this project by adding it. It would be a great asset for Spitz.

Hi,

At present, in addition to Zerotier and TailScale, the GL firmware also has AstroWarp which developed by GL, may not be adapted to other more similar functions.

But sure I will collect and record it to PM.

If this function is needed, you can install the plugins to use it.

Hi @bruce
Thank you for the PM; im not too familiar with the language but I assume it means you will submit the request ?
It should be fairly easy to implement/adapt since there is already a one liner install script. GL could really help showcase their project. Im not affiliated or anything but just fell in love with the software. We need to support Open Source projects.
Im not too familiar with the plugin-ins page and its ecosystem; could it be done this way ? how one developper make the plugin available if I were to try work on that ?
Im not familiar with AstroWarp; I just read about it but since it is not a self hosted solution it is not for me (btw I know about headscale but I netbird is another league for me)

To me, it looks like GL iNet is going more to a subscription model selling services like AstroWarp, that brings in money every month versus selling hardware based on open source software. I expect to see AstroWarp become their go to solution for overlay networking, with second tier support or no support given to things like Zerotier and TailScale.

GL iNet uses Open Source software to make money. They do not seem to do much giving back, so I don't ever expect them to release AstroWarp as Open Source. I don't expect to see support of many new Open Source projects like NetBird, AmneziaWG, and others, as they continue to move more towards a proprietary model to lock you into their products and subscriptions.

Right now to update AdGuard or TailScale running on GL iNet routers, it is better to use the scripts from @admon then depend on support from GL iNet.

That is sad to hear and could make me reconsider my router for next upgrade. I hope you are wrong.
Can you link to this Aduard script please; comes at the right time. My adguard just stopped working completely; it does not start at all I suspect; breaks my entire internet. I need to ssh into router and execute as root ?

The search in this forum works great for finding thing!
