Gl-mt3000 running ancient OpenWrt 21.02

hello,
i just purchased a gl-mt3000 and shocked to see it is running ancient OpenWrt 21.02

OpenWrt 21.02 was released on September 4, 2021.

what version of openwrt will 4.9 support?
maybe i missed it but https://forum.gl-inet.com/t/firmware-v4-9-preview-what-to-expect/68088 does not mention what version of openwrt is supported?
and the release notes make zero mention of what version of openwrt?

is the gl-mt3000 no longer supported or end of life?
the end of life page is very old December 27, 2021

and already i am having network performace issues that my 8+ year old computer running opnsense never had.

in the past, i have been very happy with my gl-usb150 and ar-750s-ext. limited as they might be.
now, i think i need to return the gl-mt3000 router, as it seems not to supported by gl-inet?

now, i am looking for another gl-inet router, as the forum is very good.
having a hard time knowing which version of openwrt is supported per router.

please advise, thanks much, david

Hi,

I recently bought the GL-MT3000, it is still supported, and is still getting updates. Firmware v4.9 I believe will be OpenWrt v24. If you want, you can install the v4.9 beta: GL.iNet download center

thanks much for the reply, i appreciate that.

but i cannot install beta software on a router.
do you have any idea when 4.9 will be released?

i think that gl-inet is so focused on adding new product lines, that they fail to support current devices.
really, still running 21 after all these years.

As far as I hear, firmware v4.9 stable has released to select devices, the Slate 7, Flint 3 and Flint 2. Other devices are in beta, you should double check when possible, this is the information I remember.

yeah, i just checked, you are correct.

i guess i will just have to wait for 4.9 on gl-mt3000.

Welcome to gl inet products (this has been an ongoing thing with gl inet). Next purchase make sure you pick a router that has the latest openwrt support.

Waiting to see what all devices will get 4.9 firmware

thanks for the detailed post.

afiak, no gl-inet router has latest openwrt.
which devices used openwrt 25?

I guess I should clarify, picking a router that supports a newer openwrt. Right now im stuck on OpenWrt 23.05-SNAPSHOT on the AX1800 and probably will never get an update due to drivers being closed source from my understanding.

in the end, i returned the device.
the version of openwrt was many years too old and the device did not work well out of the box.

the strange thing is that i have a 6+ linksys wrt3200acm and it ran a new version of openwrt and worked great without needing to play around with sqm.
