hello,
Technical Support via GoodCloud.tar (192 KB)
Can we take a look at it remotely?
So…more than a year after the problem first surfaced…and 10 months after the last “resolution” and since yesterday I’ve got a bricked AX-3000 again.
Due to the substation fire near Heathrow, the wider local area had a power cut.
These fragile iNet products do not like Unexpected interruptions to the power.
Factory reset (10 second method) didn’t work.
UBoot firmware reset didn’t work.
UBoot update itself didn’t work.
Tried Spitz AX (GL-X3000) Bricked - uboot won't work - #5 by CasaP to rename the firmware files for both uBoot and the Spitz itself - the iBoot web interface showed a successful update but failed to reboot the spitz itself after 30 minutes.
The first time round I had requested a warranty replacement but they asked me to ship it (at my cost) to a random house in the UK before shipping me out another unit. This was after they’d verified there was a problem.
I didn’t have the time to be without the modem so when we barely managed to unbrick it the first time - I left the EE sim in a tethered phone and never used the native modem.
After a firmware update in late 2024 the modem failed to initialise at all and hasn’t worked consistently ever.
Now it’s bricked, I’m looking for a non-GL alternative and once I’ve got whitchever unit working - this Spitz product will go in the bin. £400 wasted.
I felt the same when I first had the issue, but believe me I've been around the houses, TP-Link, ASUS and even Mikrotik.
The GLi units are great, in my opinion, if you are in a dodgy grid area, my house is in the sticks, so power outage every 4-6 months for a few hours, get a Puli it has a built in UPS / battery.
I'm not sure if I will RMA this device now the its working again, I'll see how she goes for a few weeks, but at least they made the offer. Any other manufacturer would say, tough "out of warranty". I get the sense they are really trying to help.
The uBoot upgrade seems overly sensitive, timing of holding the rest button is critical to a successful update. I had to do it two or three times before it "stuck". As I said, the problem I have with the uBoot upgrade is there is zero feedback. Once you see "Upgrading" and the power / 2.4 lights blinking, leave it 5 minutes after it stops and power cycle.
Just remember to set your lan to DHCP after the update, it defaults to 192.168.8.1, are you still on 192.168.1.1?
I should change the title of this thread, it's actually not bricked, just confused. Like a civil servant who thinks it's actually doing something, it's sitting there waiting for proper instructions, or a good kick up the arse.
I’ve got to the stage of completing the uBoot upgrade, and waiting for the power cycle to finish.
No orher steps work after this so I’m still on 192.168.1.1 as the firsmware update fo 4.7.4 fails.
Bricked is definitely the correct word for my situation.
Even if I managed to get it up and running, the modem within the overall product still doesn’t work with any sim unless that’s within an external tethered device.
I’d be happy with an RMA (but not at my cost, and not to some random person’s home before my unit comes to me.
When you power cycle it, 1: does just the power led stay on? Or 2: does the power led stay on and the 2.4 led blink?
If it's 1, you need to change your computer ip to 192.168.8.X, as the router is alive and using the IP address of 192.168.8.1 where you can connect to it.
Definitely 2, power on, wifi flashes 5 times and then stays static until the firmware update fails and then it’s just the power light that stays on until I try another power cycle
If any staff wants to log in via goodcloud and see where we’ve been going “wrong” and try and unbrick the device, that would be great. Or indeed just send me a fresh new device that I can compare between the two considering I’ve had issues from Day 1 - that would help.
Or finally, just give me my money back and let me find an alternative.
Shoot me a reply here or a DM and try and figure this out.
Hello @RubbishUsername
Sorry for your problem. Kindly please refer to Critical Problem Notification for GL-MT2500/GL-X3000/GL-XE3000 to update X3000 uboot bootloader and firmware to try.
If router still cannot be turned on, pls contact support@gl-inet.com for warranty.
As above, I’ve already tried to update the uBoot and that hasn’t helped. This unit has had issues since day 1 and nothing works
