WiFi Problems with GL-X750 V2 EP06-E

Hi there,

since a few months I’m using a GL-X750 V2 EP06-E to access the internet and to create a WiFi network at home. The internet access is established via the internal LTE modem. The majority of the clients in connected via 2.4G WiFi, one client is connected via LAN cable.

Overall I am really happy with the device. However from time to time there is a problem with the WiFi connectivity. In this case all the WiFi clients cannot access the internet anymore, even though they are still connected to the WiFi network. If I run an internet speedtest from one of the WiFi clients (for example via Ookla), I get a normal downstream (in my case around 50 Mbps). However the upstream dropped significantly below average (below 1 Mbps instead of 30 Mbps during normal operation).

Rebooting the router fixes the problem. By coincidence I also found a quicker fix. If this problem happens, I can still access the admin page of the router from the client, which is connected via LAN cable. When I change any of the parameters of the WiFi settings (I usually change the channel), the upstream of the WiFi clients is back to normal and the internet access is working again.

Does anybody know, what the reason for this problem might be? If I forgot any important information, please let me know.

Thanks a lot in advance!

Best regards…

When the problem occurs, are you still able to access the admin page over Wifi, instead of over LAN cable?

Does the problem occur on 5 GHz Wifi, or only 2.4 GHz?

If possible, post the portions of the System Log and Kernel Log before/after when the oroblem iccurs.

Firmware version currently? Worth updating to latest ?

Thanks for your replies. Here is my input:

When the problem occurs, it’s usually not possible to access the admin page over Wifi. One time I managed it, but it was terribly slow.

I don’t use 5 GHz Wifi, so in my case it only occurs on 2.4 GHz.

Where can I find the System Log and Kernel Log?

My current firmware version is 3.201. I just noticed that there is version 3.203 available. Are there any fixes in the new firmware version, that could be related to my problem?

Thanks and best regards…

I just had the issue again. I was not able to access the admin page via Wifi. Only LAN was working.

I managed to find System Log and Kernel Log. Here are the “newest” entries.

I also sometimes have messages in the Kernel regarding “wlan” entering blocking/disabled/promiscuous mode, so they may or may not be “normal”.

It is likely worth updating the firmware to 3.203, since it was released back in August 2021.

It would be good to test if the problem occurs on 5 GHz band because you indicated that you can fix it by changing the 2.4 GHz channel. The 2.4 GHz band tends to be quite congested and, if 5 GHz does not have the problem, then congestion may a cause. On 2.4 GHz, you should stick to HT20 bandwidth because there is more interference with wider bandwidth.

There are various apps that display all the nearby wifi devices and their channels broadcasting on 2.4 GHz / 5 GHz. I use the Wifi Analyzer app on my Android smartphone to do a site survey and pick the channel on each band to avoid the most congestion.

Did you use Wireguard?

As @limbot said, can you upgrade to 3.211?

I already used Wifi Analyzer to pick the best available channel. My channel is not congested and changing the channel is just one possible remedy to fix my problem without rebooting the router. I could change any setting on the Wifi settings page - changing the channel was just one example.

No, I’m not using Wireguard.

Version 3.211?? The last available version is 3.203. I upgraded to this version and will further examine, if the problem appears again.

The firmware update did not fix the problem. Yesterday the problem occurred twice again.

Any other ideas, how to fix this?

3.211 beta6 from here GL.iNet download center

No, I will not install a beta version.

Beta may not be good. But it is released today as stable version.

I upgraded to 3.211 but the problem still occurs. This is getting really annoying.

Are you sure it is wifi problem, not LTE?

If you test 5G wifi and Ethernet cable and it works OK, then it should not be a wifi problem.

For LTE, pls try the config in this post North American Carriers, ATT, Verizon, Cricket, T-Mobile Setup and Update 2021

Especially use ttyUSB3 as device to connect which is more compatible.

No, it’s not an LTE problem. If the problem occurs and I run a speed test from the client, which is connected via ethernet, the speed is normal. If I run the speed test from the wifi client, I get a normal downstream, but the upstream is significantly below average. So how is this not a wifi problem?

So when you do speedtest using cable or 5G wifi, speed is normal, right? I didn’t get such info. Maybe I missed something.

For 2.4G, most of the things to try is to change channel. Can you do that? Change between 1, 6, and 11 to find the best channel to use.

As written before, I already used Wifi Analyzer to pick the best available channel.

I don’t know how does wifi analyzer work. Maybe it is just digital, not analog.

2.4G wifif has interference with some band of the LTE. So change channel to 1 or 11 to see if there is any luck. But as you said 1Mbps seems this is not the issue.

No, I don’t think the issue is related to an interference with LTE. Before I bought the GL-X750, I used the same Wifi channel on my old router and never had such issues.
